*Disclaimer: Several of you have notice the lack of peeps in my pictures. This was because I was running at 5AM when I took them! I promise, there ARE people here! We don't live in a barren land.*
My new townis located 48 miles southwest of London and was a market town from way back that was expanded in the 1960s to be part of the "London overspill" under the "Greater London Plan." Blah, blah, blah... should you want the history feel free to Google. It is known for Festival Place, which is the big shopping center in town (and only about a 5 minute walk from our house.)
*Our street*
*Main shopping area...*
* Section of old pensioners cottages right as you enter the walk for the main shopping area*
*We even have a few theaters. Also down the slope is Festival Place, the big mall*
Apparently Basingstoke has the reputation of being a crappy town but I have to admit, I like it! I had never heard of it until we were house hunting and we happened upon this house online that we loved. Turns out it was in Basingstoke. We had been looking in Reading and some other towns a little bit closer to London, but once we saw this house, we were sold. It's a relatively easy 30-40 minute commute by train directly into Waterloo and it's a great position to go visit country places (like the Wellington Farm Shop and New Forest, which I'll be blogging about later in the week.)
It has almost everything we could want... a huge park that we can walk (or run as I did this morning) in and walk our puppies when PB finally lets me get one in August.
Cute, quaint restaurants...
Including some American staples, naturally...
And finally, our little piece of Victorian heaven.
*I'm obsessed with our front door. I simply ADORE the stained glass.*
Hope you enjoyed my little tour of our new town!
Tomorrow, I'm giving a pub review of this adorable old Millhouse Pub. All I can say... is dear lord the sticky toffee puuuudddiinnngggggg!
