So, it is with a sad heart and much frustration that I explain to you all where I've been for the past week - our beautiful hotel for the guest rooms, rehearsal dinner and bridal breakfast is closing at the end of this week because of the recession's effect on business. The Vernon Manor has been a Cincinnati landmark hotel since 1924 and when we visited there in October, we saw it's true historical beauty and fell in love! The doors to the rooms have these bubbles on them from the 20's when people used to put their laundry in at night from the inside - a bellhop would collect it from the outside of the door, have it washed and return it, leaving it inside the door bubble to be there and ready for morning. It still has it's original mail shoots and the gothic architecture was unbelieveable. Sadder than this, our event coordinator there is losing her job after 19 faithful years! Sad. Here is a blurb about the Vernon Manor Hotel taken from www.historichotels.org:
"The Vernon Manor Hotel, an exercise in English Renaissance Revival and modeled after the stately Hatfield House in England, has been a Cincinnati landmark since 1924. The hotel, which overlooks the city skyline, was originally built as a retreat for wealthy Cincinnatians longing to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Perched atop one of the cities’ Seven Hills, many of the 177 spacious guestrooms and suites feature city views. "
Also, the Beatles stayed at the Vernon Manor Hotel during their 1966 tour and the Rainman was filmed there. The address, 400 Oak Street, was also used in the film. Recession is killing some of our history and I hope it gets sorted soon!
The lucky thing is, their sister hotel agreed to take our contract as is as well as our existing reservations and honor the same rates. We are movin on up like George and Weezy I tell ya!!! Though it's more corporate than we originally wanted (we originally hoped for a nice big B&B which we couldn't find - Vernon was closest to our vision) our guests will enjoy the luxurious comfort of the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza right down town for the same rates!!! It's just gorgeous and though not what we wanted, I'm really excited about it now! This is another historical property famous for its extravagant art deco interiors! We never would have chosen this originally as we were trying to keep the costs down for people travelling for our big day - it's like we've upgraded to first class now though! Woo hoo!!!
While we ended up moving our rehearsal dinner in the end, they are still honoring our breakfast and get this... It's going to be in the JULEP ROOM!!!! I took that as a sign!!! Here are some photos:

So, sorry I've been MIA - I've had to rebook the entire wedding week except the ceremony and reception! YIKES!!!
Stay tuned - I think my next post is my 100th and you know what that means.... GIVEAWAY!
I got something really cool that I am sure is hard to find in the states, if you even knew to look for it... it's cute, it's French and it might help you reduce your carbon footprint! Stay tuned...
xoxo,
Pink Julep!
