Vintage BBQ + Rooftop View = Good Times for All!

Find me on Polyvore
Mr. Julep and I were in the beginning planning stages when we contacted The Vernon Manor Hotel in Cincinnati, OH as a potential place for our guests to stay during the wedding week. We were looking for something big enough to hold all our guests where we could also have our rehearsal dinner so no one would have to venture too far away for it. We fell in LOVE with The Vernon Manor - it's old, vintage look and it's history is AMAZING!!! We wanted to stay far away from regular corporate hotel chains - it didn't fit our vision. The Vernon is very gothic, all the rooms are different, and not only was RAINMAN filmed there, but also, the Beatles stayed there on their 1967 tour!!! IDEAL!
We had no sort of plan for our rehearsal dinner - it was on the back burner. They don't do rehearsal dinners in Ireland so Marc thought it was a ridiculous concept! haha So you can imagine our shock when our contact there said, "Of course you can have the rehearsal here - how about a rooftop BBQ?" I nearly died with excitement! It's perfect and we booked it straight away - it also provided our theme instantly and we're thrilled with it!!!
In my opinion, the wedding is stuffy enough, even when it's not that stuffy! So the rehearsal dinner should be fun, relaxing and easy for those who attend to get to know each other!
We're basing our BBQ on the idea of a 1950's (post-war obviously) backyard All-American family cookout!!! We're using bandanas for napkins and dressing up bottles of Jim Beam BBQ Sauce with rafia, sunflowers, and checked or bandana print fabric/ribbons as centerpieces that we'll give away. (Had to be Jim Beam because I'm from Kentucky!!!) There will hopefully be some old fashioned country music like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline mixed in with the rock-n-roll greats - Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and of course Elvis Presley!!!
We are staying away from the 4th grade sock-hop scenario that we all experienced in the 80's with Grease Music and poodle skirts - this will be a chic take on an old fashioned family tradition! There will be place cards and favors and a grill attendant on deck! I'm very excited to bring this fun idea to life!
Let me know if any of you have any great ideas that we could include in our plans!
xoxo,
Pink Julep
