I just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and it's one of the best books I've ever read! I couldn't put it down!
The story centers around Jacob, a down and out vet student from Cornell who finds himself lost after a horrible series of events and jumps on a train, only to find out it's a Circus train. The descriptions of circus life are so interesting and Jacob's life becomes a whirlwind of adventure. The characters in the book are fantastic and so beautifully described by Gruen that you can actually see them.
For me, reading this book was like joining the circus for a week! It's intense, exciting and full of twists and turns! I'd recommend this book to anyone! The next book I read will certainly have big shoes to fill!
A film version is being produced starring Christopher Waltz, Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson as Jacob (I think he'll be perfect!) and I can't wait to see it!
