Wedding Wednesday: FLOWERS!

I've been having the hardest time deciding on flowers for my wedding reception. I feel like I need to make a confession before I go any farther into this...

Hi, My name is Beantown Prepster... and when it comes to flowers... I am a cheapskate

Don't get me wrong. I love flowers. If I had millions of dollars my reception would be dripping with flowers. However, I don't have a million dollars, and quite honestly I'd rather spend the money on something more fun. Um. Like my honeymoon... or a new dining room chandelier for our house.

So enter flowers. I've had to bright idea to put some pillar candles (or one... jury is still out on the number) in the center of the table and then to have 3 small vases of flowers around it, and then tealights sprinkled all around.

My problem is deciding what TYPE of flowers to put in the small vases... and what kind of small vases... and what color flowers to use...

Oy.

So I think I've determined my bouquet will be comprised of the following:
*White/cream hydrangeas
*White/pink peonies
*Pink David Grey Roses
*White Ranculus

I think my bridesmaids will all be carrying simple hydrangeas (white/cream).

Now... what  do I pick for my little vases?

One or two hydrangea stems?
Couple big David Grey Roses?
Mixture of both?

I want classic, pretty and simple.

Now. Send me ALL of your creative suggestions.
Help a sister out!
(Emailed pictures of examples are also welcome!)

Sparklecows.

Last night my mother dragged me to see Adam Lambert. Now, I have to admit that I did not watch him on American Idol and the only thing I've ever heard him sing is "Whataya Want From Me" and "Mad World." I went because she got me an extra ticket and frankly I had nothing better to do with my time. So... what did I think?

O.

M.

G.

He was AMAZING! His vocal ability is insane. I usually expect artists to sound worse in person than they do on their CD. He was WAYYYY better in person.

The music. Oh the music. It's like Boy George meets Lady Gaga. I died. And the glitter. OHHHH The glitter. He and his dancers had glitter all over their faces and bodies and his mic and the dancers sticks were all covered in black glitter. It was visually stunning! It was legit like a cross between Cirque de Soleil and David Bowie in Labriynth.

I forgot my camera (moron) and so I couldn't take any pics but the venue was tiny so we were really able to see everything. I honestly can't put into words how great he was! I'm a BELIEVER! Below is a video I pulled from YouTube that was taken at another concert (You might want to open the link into a new browser because my blog cuts off half the picture). This was by far my FAVORITE song he performed. It was almost just like this video but he had more glitter at our concert! ME GUSTA!
(WATCH IT.)
(No, but seriously. Like WATCH.)

PS: I bet you're wondering what "Sparklecows" are... Well let me enlighten you. According to my mother it is a term in the Adam Lambert fan world for the middle aged women who stalk Adam by going to all of his shows dressed up with glitter and sparkles on their faces.

That's right kittens.

Mama's in the know.

An intervention is not needed for her... well not quite yet... I told her the minute she buys glitter and black nail polish I'm calling A&E.

I am the coolest step-mother ever...

How many other step-mommies can make complete fools of themselves for the entertainment of an 11-year old?

Attempt #1: Not that impressive.

I mean, seriously... Aside from the tummy flub (aka the downside to losing lots of weight) I'm quite proud of my abilities! Not bad for a 28 year old fatty!

Attempt #2: SUCCESS! (The foot wiggle out is KEY.)

You know... This is how we spend our Sunday nights around here.

How many headstands/cartwheels/backbends have YOU done lately?

haaaahahahahahaha!

Soooooo much to blog about, so little time...

I'll start with the weekend before last... PB and I, as previously mentioned, picked up a guide to Tea Rooms across England. We were bored so decided to knock two out in one day. We headed southwest to Dorset to check out the Riverbarn Cafe & Restaurant. It was delightful! We had tea and sandwiches (too early for cream teas and we hadn't had lunch) and walked around the beautiful property and found lots of 4-legged friends.

*The quaint front of the restaurant, which is tucked away in a tiny village of only 200 inhabitants.*

*The next door neighbors that I spoke to on our way in... Presh!*
(Can you tell I'm slightly obsessed with piglets?)

*My delicious lunch of a brie, grape and chutney sandwich with literally 6 crisps (when in England) and a lovely salad with lots of tasty seeds!*

*The inside of my amazing sandwich. Who knew so simple could be so wonderful?*

*A friend that came by for a pet and then a snooze. He laid down against my leg for almost an hour. We have no idea who he belonged to and we wanted to steal him!*

*PB looking all handsome in his Red Sox cap.*

*A cute butterfly we found while walking around the grounds, near the river.*

*Our cute neighbors. They were at the table across from ours and they stayed just like that! So well behaved. I love how much Britons love their dogs!*

*Enjoying some tea after lunch before hitting the road again.*

*The river... more like bubbling brook... that runs along the back of the property. It was so beautiful and quiet!*

I'll be back tomorrow with the second tea room on our Dorset tour! Stayed tuned for some scrumptious goodies!

Weekend in Numbers...

10: Number of times we went on the WET log-ride at Paulton's Park...

9: Number of glasses of wine I imbibed...
(Don't judge. I rarely drink... but when I do? I DO.)

8: Number of times I tripped and almost bit it while running around chasing a soccer ball, pretending to be 10 years old again...
(No. This was not booze related... er. Ok, well Saturday might have been slightly booze-induced.)

7: Number of times I told PB that I was certain I'd gained weight while in line to weigh in on Sat...
(Turns out he was right, I had not.)

6: Number of children I took out trying to get a good seat on the spinny swingy thingy at Paulton's Park...
(What? It's fun.)

5: Number of times I reiterated to PB that chicken doesn't count as "meat" while eating a piece of roast chicken...
(For the record. Chicken is a bird. Therefore it is not the same as eating a little piggy or baby cow.)

4: Number of times I got the giggles...
(Multiply by 6.)
(Also, not booze-induced.)

3: Number of ice cream cones I ate...
(Shut. UP.)

2: Number of weeks I lasted as a LEGIT vegetarian...
(well, I'm still a vegetarian after the Sunday roast chicken debacle if you follow my "chicken-is-NOT-really-meat" rule)

1: Number of times I sliced my own hand open with my dang engagement ring...
(PB's fault for spinning me on this dumb playground thingy)

How was your weekend?
Stay tuned for lots of pics and updates this week!

Tag Time!

My fellow blogger and bff HFG tagged me on her blog with this fun TAG! I thought it'd be super fun to play along!

Favorite color: PINK! (Agreed!)

Favorite Brands/Designers: Love Michael Kors, Lilly, Marc Jacobs & Oscar de la Renta

Favorite Restaurant: SOOOO many... Crooks Corner (in NC), 4th Street Deli (in PA), Toscano (in Boston), Momofuku (in NYC), Lady & Sons (in Savannah)... I could go on and on and on and on...

Hobbies: Cooking, baking, reading, playing tennis, blogging, volunteering, politics, etc.

Favorite thing about yourself: My favorite thing about myself is that I am super opinionated and not afraid to be exactly who I am regardless of what others think of me and my opinions!

What does your room look like (color scheme, theme, etc.): I LOVE my room! I have massively high ceilings, a brick wall behind my bed, platform bed. My bedding is simple and cute- white duvet w/ my monogram in pink in the center and a green pearl border, pink quilt and shams are also on there. Also my favorite Hillary poster framed on the wall beside my bed that has her and says "She's the one!" in shades of pink. Wait, did I mention I like pink?

If you could have dinner with 2 people (dead or alive) who would they be: Queen of England and Audrey Hepburn. We know I'm obsessed with the queen and Audrey needs no explanation... I mean really.

What is your next “big splurge”: Hmm. Since I've been preparing for this wedding I've been trying super hard not to spend money... HOWEVER... there is this certain bag I may or may not be lusting over. My grades were absolutely STELLAR this semester... so mmmaaayyybbbeee a new bag!

What is your favorite joke, quote, or saying: Favorite saying "Bless her heart" and favorite quote "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me!"

Anything else you would like us to know about you (random fact)!? I used to be obsessed with Dolly Parton. I was a member of her fan club when I was little and we went to the opening day of Dollywood one April specifically because she was in the opening day parade. I saw her and stood there and cried the entire time because I was so overwhelmed! I still, to this day, LOVE her and get excited whenever she is on anything!

Now it is time to tag six fellow bloggers to answer the above questions! Each person that is tagged must tag six new bloggers. Be sure to link to the person that originally tagged you and comment on their TAG post so they can read your answers.

Let the games begin.... TAG, YOU'RE IT!

TV Stardom

PB and I spent Tuesday and Wednesday filming the BBC show "To Buy or Not to Buy." It's essentially the British version of Househunters. PB and I both had fun but we were a little disappointed in the house choices they found for us. We ended up not buying any of the properties but we did find a really cute town that we've arranged to view a few houses in. I'll try to make this recap brief as to not bore y'all!

DAY 1

We were picked up around 8AM on Tuesday by Avon, who would be our driver for the 2 days. He drove us to this historic area where we were to film the intro to the show and have our first chat with the two presenters, Ed and Rani. We filmed it at this John F. Kennedy monument which apparently is on a little section of land that is technically owned by America. It was interesting, to say the least. The presenters were both super nice. I felt awkward taking pictures on the first day, but I took a few as we were leaving to go to the first house.

*Ed is on the left, and Avon is on the right.
Up ahead is Steve the director and Tom who is a cameraman.*

*Noel, another cameraman, and Paul, the sound guy*
I didn't take any pictures of the first house. It was cute but in a questionable area. It was larger than I've seen and under our budget but had very little character. It did have a huge stove and a utility room with a full size washer and dryer, which is almost unheard of in England. The backyard or "garden" as they call it, was HUGE and full of sunlight. I really liked it but PB was worried about the area. We might go back and look at it again when we have more time. The annoying part of filming this show is that we didn't really get a chance to look at the properties, but just had to do takes and film this and that. It didn't really give us free time to look at the property and really take it all in.

After this we had lunch at a cute pub en route to the second property. I had a "tuna mayonnaise and spring onion" baguette. Apparently here they call tuna salad "tuna mayonnaise" and they call egg salad "egg and mayonnaise." The good part is they put hardly any mayo, so those are actually pretty healthy choices, unlike in America where tuna salad is like 4 pounds of mayo! The second property we LOVED. It was built in 1750 and was this precious cottage in Odiham.

*I managed to snap a shot of the fireplace in the living room.*

It was STUNNING. It had dark wood beams running across the ceilings in every room. There was a fireplace in the dining room. It was very well maintained but absolutely TINY. The staircase to the 2nd floor was like climbing a ladder. The bedroom was spacious and had a huge built in desk/drawers along one wall. We really really REALLY loved it but it was lacking some of our musthaves: It only had one bedroom when we need at least 2, It had a seriously tiny kitchen with a mini-fridge, it had no garden and only a tiny patio in the back and there was absolutely NO closet space. In fact, there was not really any closet! We both agreed that if we were never going to have children this would be perfect. However, with visitors from the US and PB's daughter visiting, in addition to wanting babies in the next 5 years, it simply was too small to work.

They then apparently loved me, or so claims PB, so they had me and the host Ed go into the village and interview some people about the town. We talked to about 6 people and one older man was SO sweet. We asked him where a new American moving to the area should go and he told us that I should go to the local pub because I'd be very popular. He then told Ed on camera that the BBC would be lucky to have such a "smart, pretty, well-spoken" young woman. After that he told me that he was recently a visiting professor in Boston and again mentioned that "such a pretty girl would be a big hit" in that town. I loved that man. Apparently the Brits like chubby, short brunettes! Ed thought he wanted to take me home with him! I was VERY flattered and blushed (which is rare for me.) Both Steve, the director, Paul, the sound guy, and Ed said I was a natural. HMMMM! Maybe I should be a TV presenter!!!! hahahaha

After my interviewing segment we called it a night and headed home. PB and I were exhausted so I made us salads for dinner, we watched some TV, I worked on my project a little, and we hit the hay.

DAY 2

Day 2 started off with Avon picking us up again. This time he drove us directly to the "Mystery Property." PB and I both had super high hopes for the mystery property. We were in a cute area and all the homes were beautiful... and thhheeennnn they walked us over to these apartments. Um. Apartment? Cauuussee I kind of thought I said that we were looking for a house. I was skeptical but the outside looked nice. I was more comfortable with everyone and it was a little less rushed so I took more pictures.

We HATED the apartment. It was a weird shape, completely medicinal and over our budget. They also made us do this ridiculous dream sequence about our meeting in a coffee shop. It was the stupidest thing ever. They also made us salute and do all these ridiculous things in front of the blue screen. After we nixed the 2nd property we got to "test drive" a property that we liked, which meant we got to go back. We chose the adorable cottage in Odiham. We went back, looked it over, tried to think of any ways we could change it to make it work, and finally decided that no matter how much we loved it, there was nothing we could do to make more space. We then filmed a ridiculous segment about British food... all because I mentioned how much I loved sausages... and then we called it a day. They gave us mugs as a gift and took us home.

*Most of our camera crew. The tall blonde guy was Tom. He fancied me. Teeheehee*

*My fuzzy mike inside my shirt*

*The set up of our ridiculous coffee meet "dream" sequence we had to act out. Annnnd this was about the point where we began to get annoyed with the BBC*

*The camera after out acting debut.*

*PB before we had to act. This look about sums it up! hhhaaaaaaa. He'll kill me for putting this up but I was taking a picture of me but he started to blink. Hilarity*

*Me after I had to flirt with the wall... Seriously. It was ridiculous.
As a side note- I look like SUCH a fattie! It was the SHIRT! We had to wear the same clothes both days and my shirt was a little too big and kept falling into those wrinkly folds. It didn't help that it was linen and we were sitting a lot. Anyway. Don't judge.*

*Me and Tom the hilarious cameraman that adored me. PB was jealous.*

*Paul removing my mike for the day.*

Overall it was a really fun experience but not was not particularly helpful. Who knows, maybe someone important with see me or PB on TV and want to cast us for something! We are unsure of when we'll be on, but I'll certainly share the episode when we get it!

Now, going to get ready for SATC 2!!! I can't WAIT!

Wordless Wednesday: Cruise Wrap Up

I. ABSOLUTELY. DIE.

Favorite Dress EVER.

I need this dress. ASAP. PB- You hear me?!

*image from google*

So you know that scene in the Proposal...

When Sandra Bullock get in bed and smoothes her hair like 500 times before going to sleep? And when she moves she straightens and re-smoothes? Yeah. That was me... All. Night. Long.

I straightened my hair before I went to bed and LITERALLY I kept smoothing and straightening it every time I would move or shift. I cracked myself up! (and yes, I awoke with perfect, shiny, STRAIGHT hair!)

Anyway- I'm at the airport. NO UPGRADE! BOOHISS BRITISH AIRWAYS! So I'm relegated to World Traveller Plus. Could be worse, I suppose.

Have a good rest of the week! Check back for updates from across the pond.

Confession...

So I got this pretty pink present for Christmas...

and I got this fun lil' number to go with it...

And I caaaannnn'ttttt put it down!!

I may or may not be a 12 year old trapped in a 26 year old's body.
Judge me... Go ahead.. Judge me.
