Busy Busy Weekend

We have a lot to do this weekend since our party is only 1 week away!!! This whole week is going to be hectic and busy for us, but in a fun way!!!

This will be the first time we're having a party in our home! We have plenty of RSVP's and it's bound to be a festive and jolly night of Christmas merrymaking!!!

I'm going to be doing a lot of the cooking ahead of time as some items will keep in the refrigerator for a while and others can be frozen and then warmed up later! Today I'm going to get started or at least to a practice run of Truffles!!! I hope they turn out as pretty as these:

I'll also be starting my holiday cookie baking today!

And this evening we're heading out to Cayman's own Irish pub, Fidel Murphy's for drinks with a friend!

Then, hopefully home early so we can pop this into the DVD player!!!

And wake up early to start all over again! So much cleaning, decorating and cooking to do! Exciting!!! What are you guys up to this weekend?!?!

Pink Julep at Blockbuster: Film Reviews

I will forever be a fan of Lifetime and made for tv movies! And I love it that so many of them make their way to DVD these days and show up at our local Blockbuster!

Last weekend hubby and I rented these two:

Warning, do not watch these movies if you don't want to BALL YOUR EYES OUT!!! These had me in a real state, box of tissues in hand! But who doesn't love a good sappy flick around the holidays to give ya a good ole cry and remind you to be human! Peace on earth and all that good mushy stuff! Anyway, they are both bad films, but I liked them and think they both have really good messages!

PS - I'm seeing NEW MOON tonight and I'm sooooo excited!!!

Pink Julep at the Movies: Couples Retreat

Hubby and I went to see this last night. It was cute and definitely had its moments, but it wasn't the best I've seen. Definitely a renter though! And Vince Vaughn is EXCELLENT in this movie!!! Love him!!! On the other hand, most of the other performers in the film were not really showcased for what they do best... it's hard to watch Jason Bateman or Kristen Davis play characters I don't like since they are such wonderful additions to the other films they're in! Bummer!

New Moon - Not Coming to a Theatre Near Me! GRRR

I've been eagerly checking the website for our movie theatre on the island every 4 hours for the past two weeks in an attempt to be the first person on the island to book tickets for New Moon's opening this Friday.

Boy was I surprised to find out this morning that New Moon isn't opening on the island this Friday! GRRRR ARE THEY KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! Only the most anticipated film of the year. It's not fair. I'm furious! If I thought every showing wouldn't be sold out, I'd shuffle my little Pink Julep behind onto a 747 and go to Miami to see it. It's just not fair... I've been waiting for ages to see this movie, but I suppose I'll have to settle for Whip It, which is probably already out on DVD in the US but only opening here on this Friday... Dear God, how I miss civilization sometimes! Grrrr

Sorry for the rant, but they're keeping me from my Edward and I had to get that off my chest! hahahaha

A Christmas Carol

Hubby and I went to see A Christmas Carol on Sunday and though it wasn't offered here in 3D, we LOVED it! It was great! I highly recommend it but be warned, this might be a tad bit scary for very young children. Great film and perfect for getting into the holiday spirit!!!

If it's still playing around the holidays, we might have to see it again in 3D when we visit the US. It would totally be worth it!

Happy Tuesday!

Coco Chanel

Hubby and I rented this movie the other night and just loved it! It was very good considering that it's a made-for-tv movie! I just love the Lifetime biopics though! I always have and I always will!!!

If you watch this, you'll definitely recognize some of your favorite Chanel quotes! Shirley MacLaine is brilliant as usual and all in all, it's a beautiful fun movie to watch!

We are enjoying Pirate's Week and going to a luau tonight! So much fun! I love "the season" so much better than the summers here!

Long Weekend Update

Our long weekend started off with a Thursday night trip to the movies! We went to see Zombieland. It held my interest, but was all around a pretty bad film. Don't waste your money... wait till it comes on the telly. Not even a renter in my opinion, though to be fair, it does have some funny moments.

On Friday, we decided to have Thanksgiving since we aren't given that holiday here. We started off the day with nibbles and Christmas movies! We watched Christmas With the Kranks, which I loved and Santa Baby starring Jenny McCarthy, which was cute too! We nibbled on mini chicken salad sandwhiches and Pigs in a Blanket (pictured below). [sorry for the poor quality Blackberry photo!]

Dinner was a huge success! I made a turkey breast in the crockpot with mashed potatoes and green beens. There was lucky chocolate pie for desert and of course, wine! YUM!!! Here's a photo. I know the table doesn't match the hideous Golden Girls decor, but we can't really help that while we're here... don't judge! :-)

After dinner we headed out to the movies again to see All About Steve. This film, though sweet and sometimes funny, was also a disappointment.

We shopped all day on Saturday, mostly looking for something I could wear to the luau coming up this weekend, but alas, the Shopping Gods were not smiling on us! I live on an island and I can't find any island gear anywhere! Ugh!!!
After all the shopping, I finally settled down to finish the last of the thank-you cards for our wedding gifts. Late, I know! But it's a hefty job, even when you have a smallish wedding! Alas, they are finished! Just in time for me to start sending out Christmas cards... it never ends!

We spent the entire day cleaning and organizing on Sunday, which was much needed and when we finally settled down to watch some telly that night, we discovered this little visitor on our front door window (approximately 10 feet off the ground! How'd he get there?!?!)!

And finally, on Monday, we chilled out. We watched a couple of dvd's, went to the pool and spent about 4 hours planning our upcoming trip to LA. We've made dinner reservations for every night and reserved a few lunches and breakfasts too! Exciting!!! And a neighbor dropped round this picture of us in the pool, which I love. Yes, we look stoned and disheveled, but we're totally sober and just enjoying the pool!

Feeling refreshed after an extended rest and so happy that we're organized with a super tidy house! Will come in handy to be up to speed with the holiday season in full gear! Nice that we only have a 4 day week this week too!
Happy Tuesday!

Pink Julep at the Movies: This is It

I'd like to say that I really enjoyed this movie but I'm just not sure I can, but not because it's bad. I'm a huge MJ fan and a big ole softy and I cried through the whole film! What a tragic loss! And let's face it... he may or may not have done some things that were strange or immoral, but there's absolutely NO denying that Michael Jackson was an innovative performer and quite possibly the greatest showman on earth! In this film, we get to see how he works and he was nothing if not a perfectionist as well as a talented musician and dancer with and eye for what looks good and an ear for what sounds amazing!

One of my favorite things about this film was the rockin guitar player Orianthi! She's gorgeous and this chick rocks! What an amazing talent! She made me wanna buy a HOT PINK Stratacaster ASAP!!!

The dancing is everything you'd expect from the King of Pop who has had us all moonwalking in the kitchen when no one is looking since the 80's! (Admit it... you know you do it too!) I found it disturbing that at 50 years old and in a fragile state, MJ made the 25 year old professionals around him look like amateurs. It was just confirmation that NO ONE WILL EVER BE THAT GOOD AGAIN! Scary!

As a dancer I learned a lot of MJ's choreography in classes through the years and I found it difficult to not get out of my seat and shake a boogie! SHAMON!

But all in all, I am so saddened by the loss. I'm also sad that my whole life I've dreamed of seeing Michael Jackson live and I never got to. Hubby promised to take me to London to see the This is It tour and we all know how that turned out. However, in seeing this film, we get to see Michael Jackson the person. Someone who cares about the planet and the environment. Someone who regularly tells the people around him that he loves them. Someone who was eager to work hard and bring something to the stage that no one had EVER seen before! It's definitely a must-see film!

Happy Movie Watching!

Pink Julep at the Movies

I have to say, after loving Juno so much, I was so excited for Jennifer's Body.

But I was disappointed in most respects. It's a great story/plot. It's decently written although a little too much hip language made it sound unbelievable.

Also, pretty as she may be, Megan Fox is not talented. She is not the worst, but she's certainly not good enough to pull off that kind of dialogue. Most of the time she sounded like she couldn't even read her dialogue, much less understand what it means! She ruined this movie for me.

Amanda Seyfried is one to watch for sure. This little doll is a rising star! She is excellent in this film and a very talented little actress! She makes Megan Fox look like an over-paid douchebag! I can't wait to see Seyfried's next 10 movies!

All in all, this film was good fun, but it wasn't necessarily good. I actually enjoyed the comic relief of Sorority Row better, but it was a fun night out to the movies and a perfect choice for this time of year with Halloween right around the corner!!!
Can't wait to see Zombieland!!! It opens here tonight!!!

Last Chance Harvey

This film was not earth shattering, nor did I expect it to be. It is however a sweet film about love, accomplishment, regret and 2nd chances and I would recommend it to anyone who has nothing to watch or nothing to do! It's not at the top of my list, but I can't say anything bad about it either.

This film also offers beautiful views of London, some very funny moments and really cool music!

Happy Movie Watching!!!

Taken - A Seriously Disturbing Movie

This is a really good and suspenseful film, however be warned. It's upsetting and disturbing and there's A LOT of violence, but all in all, totally worth your $5 rental fee and 2 hours of your time! Bonus is, it has guns in it, so your hubby will like it too!!!

Don't Waste Your Time - Film Review

I normally try to find something good in the movies I give my time to, but these two were a bust. I didn't enjoy them at all... neither did hubby.

Can I please have my $7 in rental fees and 4 hours back please?!?!

State of Play: Film Review

Mr. Julep and I have wanted to see State of Play since we first saw the trailer a while back and boy were we surprised! This film was even better than I thought it would be! It's suspenseful and timely as well as extremely well written, directed and acted in my opinion! It's a great film!

I'm not normally a fan of Russell Crowe, but he's excellent in this film. And though I like Rachel McAdams, she's not my favorite, but she's perfect against Crowe and they work well together on screen!

Helen Mirren is perfect as usual, but in this movie, you get to really see her ballsiness! Love it!

And after seeing this film, I can honestly say that I think Ben Affleck is turning into a force to be reckoned with! He's excellent as Senator Collins in State of Play. He's one to watch for sure as he seems to be really growing into his craft, becoming a top-notch actor in my opinion.

Robin Wright Penn has a fairly small part as the Senator's wife, but she's perfect for the role. And she's gorgeous in this movie (as usual).

All in all, I'd say this movie has the most unlikely cast for a really GREAT film, yet together, they are magnificent! Pink Julep fully recommends this movie for your next rental if you didn't catch it in the theatres! Happy Movie Watching!

Plans for the Weekend!!!

Have been looking forward to this weekend since last weekend ended. And why shouldn't I? I am sooooo crazy in love and happily married, have developed a new love for cooking and work hard like a dog, so it's no wonder I'm living for the weekend every week!!! There's so many things I'd like to do this weekend that I'm not sure I'll cram it all in!

Tonight I'm making beef stroganoff with Key Lime Pie for desert and we'll watch some movies we rented, after Ghost Whisperer and Medium of course!

Can't wait to see this one:

Will have to go to bed early so I can get up for the gym, shower and be very well rested for my appointment with a make-up artist from the Dior Runway Team!!! AHHHHHHHHHH So excited!!!! Maybe he's responsible for these looks:

Or these:
Either way, I'm sure it is going to be super fun and I'm bound to learn a few tricks and pick up a few new treats for my face!!!

Also this weekend, I'd like to finally (it's been going on way too long) finish reading this:

So I can start reading this:

And tomorrow night, after dining on most like Lemon Mustard Chicken (though I haven't completely decided on tomorrow's dinner - we might go out) we're going to see this (hubby is well excited and I suppose I'd have to worry about his orientation if he weren't):

I'm a huge fan of Diablo Cody so I'm looking forward to it too!!! And it's a vampire movie so it's perfect for the HALLOWEEN season!!!

On Sunday I plan to do some hefty cleaning.

Attempt to make home-made white bread from scratch (having never tried this before, I don't have super high expectations for this first attempt).

I'll probably also make some other new recipes, in particular muffins for the week ahead for breakfasts and I'm thinking of doing a Quiche for brunch on Sunday! In case y'all haven't noticed, I've recently discovered that cooking is a brilliant form of stress relief and since making all my own food, I've been feeling a lot better!!! So I'm slaving away happily in the kitchen for the bulk of my free time... and Mr. Julep approves... he's eating well these days and happy for it!
What are your plans for the weekend?
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Sisterhood of the Travelling Beotches!

Whomever said this movie was crap was absolutely right! But it's the good crap that makes you laugh hysterically when it's supposed to be serious and Pink Julep LOVES her some GOOD CRAP!!!
If you're up for a giggle, then definitely check out this movie! It's cute and stupid along the lines of the other cute and stupid movies that everyone previously slated as bad but now owns on DVD like The Craft. Seriously... go see it. And if you hate Audrina, don't let that stop you... she's in it for like 10 minutes tops! Not giving anything away... just sayin.
