Major Snaps to the Newest Diet Book Author! Who Said She Was Clueless?!?!

I grew up loving Alicia Silverstone, particularly because of her tour de force performance as the girl I always wanted to be (minted, popular, fabulous, well-dressed... did I mention unaccountable and independently wealthy?) when I was growing up, Cher in CLUELESS!!!

I also loved her in the Aerosmith videos - so carefree and sprited with a then relatively unknown Liv Tyler:

And now I hear she's written a book about dieting and eating healthy:

She looks AMAZING!!! Did anyone else read this yet? I'm dying to know if it's good... I'm a little concerned that it might be all vegetarian. If anyone knows much about this book, please comment and fill me in. We won't get it on island for a while, I'm sure.
Hope you're all enjoying the start to your weekends!

Have You Heard About Slimware???

Slimware is a new type of dishware that helps you to be aware of your portions while looking like the chic dishes you would normally use as oposed to portion-controlling tupperware! You're supposed to put the meat on the smallest area, the carb side on the medium one and the veggies on the largest area.

A great gift for someone who is dieting or a health-conscious gal who's just starting out in college or her first apartment, but only if you're close! You don't want someone to get the wrong idea!
Check out the website if you want to learn more about Slimware: http://www.slimware.com

Seriously? Only 100 Calories? But It's So YUMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

I love me some Slim-a-Bears! They price out here on the island at just about $1 each, so yes, $6 per box, which seems a bit pricey, but it's cheaper than a $7 blizzard from DQ and a hell of a lot less fattening! Yum!!!

New Obsession!

This is the yummiest breakfast! I'm not a cinnamon person or a cereal person, but I love this one!

Happy Tuesday!

Like Flavored Coffee, But Hate the Calories???

I just tried Splenda flavors for coffe in Hazelnut! It's not AMAZING like Starbucks or anything but it does the trick! Yum!!! I LOVE anything hazelnut, yet the other mixes and creamers for flavoring coffee have so many calories or fat grams that I would feel guilty and pack on a pound or two while simply drinking my morning coffee! These little splenda babies are 0 calories and 0 fat and they also come in Caramel, Cinnamon Spice, Mocha & French Vanilla!!!
Happy Saturday Pretties!!!

Lunchtime!

Took advantage of Mr. Julep being at a conference today (instead of having lunch with me as usual) to drive down to Spa Esprit and purchase the skincare products that were recommended for me on Saturday! Will let you know how they work out!

So I'm sittin here now with my Lean Cuisine pizza enjoying the rest of my lunch before gettin back to the work list!

Hope you're all having a glorious hump day!

10 Ways to Cut Down on Your Bad Cholesterol and Increase the Good Cholesterol

Hubby was recently diagnosed as having very high bad cholesterol and very low good cholesterol. So we've had a drastic change in the foods we've been eating and the way we live our lives. The doctor has suggested that we try to change our diets and exercise for the next 3 months. If the results are good, then she will wait to see another 3 months' progress before she decides to put Mr. Julep on statins (like Lipitor).

Cholesterol could effect anyone, no matter how old or how healthy you are. A friend of mine in college was 18 years old with dangerously high cholesterol due to heredity. I thought I'd share a few dietary changes our doctor suggested for how to lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.

1. Fish is great for both causes because it's low in bad fat and high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids. I know everyone is freaking out about Mercury poisoning these days, so if it's a concern please note that some fish are higher in Mercury content than others. According to Wikipedia, Tilapia, Salmon, Pollock and Catfish contain lower levels of Mercury than most other fish.

2. Reduce consumption of red meat.

3. Eat only lean cuts of meat and trim the fat off whenever possible. Drain meats after cooking stove top.

4. Nuts are a great source of good cholesterol.

5. Flax seed oil is a great source of good cholesterol among many other things!

6. Cut out pizza, which is super high in cholesterol.

7. Replace dairy products as much as possible and where not possible, use low-fat or skim instead. I've been using soy milk wherever possible, in coffee, tea, cereal and Mr. Julep can't tell the difference. Cut out cheese and butter which are the worst! Also, chocolate is a deal breaker!

8. Eat oatmeal! Oats are proven to reduce cholesterol levels! Whole grains are good too!

9. Reduce salt, sodium and fat where possible.

10. Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil! Rich in Omega 3's, olive oil is great for the increase of good cholesterol!!!

It's never too early to start looking after our health. I'm sure my cholesterol is probably fine, but hubby's scare motivated me to make some changes as well. Sounds cheesy, but we only have one body and we should take care with what we put into it! Would you wear a $5,000 Valentino gown with the wrong cheap old undergarments? I hope not! I've recently come to understand that I'll get out of my body what I put into it and even if I can't pull 3 hour workouts 7 days a week, I can still stop poluting myself with bad foods!

If anyone knows of any other good tips for cholesterol control, please share in the comments or send me an e-mail! I'd love to hear from you!

**** DISCLAIMER -I am no expert and am only sharing what our doctor suggested. This post is in no way a substitute for medical treatment if you have issues with your cholesterol.

NERVOUS!!!

While Mr. Julep was sick last week and then while I was sick this weekend, we've skipped the gym and let our diets go quite a bit - everyone knows when you're sick you only want junk food... not sure why this is, but it's totally true! But tomorrow its back on the diet and work-out train... I think we're both pretty much better by now, but I'm not looking forward to finding out how much weight I've gained! Oops!

After eating this:

And this:
And this too:

And let's not forget this:

Or this :

I'm really not looking forward to this!!!!

Wish me luck! Hopefully it won't be too bad - the wedding dress fittings are fast approaching and I've got a lot to lose if I'm gonna look smokin!!!

Pink Julep
